Yoga DVD Review: Rodney Yee’s “Yoga Burn”

A “must-have” Yoga DVD for those who are serious about core strength Rating: ★★★★½

I’ve yet to find a yoga instructor that I like more than Rodney Yee. Yee appeared in my first yoga video, Yoga Journal’s Yoga Practice Series, which for me was life-changing. His no-nonsense, knowledgeable, cheerful delivery motivates; his fluid precision inspires. On top of that, he seems like an affable guy, plain and simple.

In Yoga Burn, Yee leads a series of asanas over a 60 minute period. The key to this yoga DVD is slow, continuous repetition. You’ll soon see that when you decelerate your movements, your muscles must work harder to hold the position. This hastens fat burning and boosts strength and stamina. Slowing your pace also delivers powerful mind and mood benefits. Yee says, “The sheer slowness trains the mind to be present.”

We’ve classified Yoga Burn as an intermediate yoga DVD; however, beginners can use it too. It includes a bonus, advanced option of the workout with verbal cues and music only.
