Yoga DVD Review: If You Can’t Get to the Beach, Bring the Beach to You
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a Worthy Challenge Rating:

Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Grace, Power, Surf, and Sunset, Intermediate & Advanced is a
well-produced, superbly organized yoga DVD for intermediate level yogins. The instructor, Maral Hadidi, leads a more traditional yoga session than say, Sadie Nardini. Maral moves at a slower pace; holds poses longer; and includes a few advanced traditional poses like headstand, bird of paradise and crow pose. However, all levels should be able to handle the remaining poses which include triangle, side angle, pigeon etc.
The title doesn’t lie: Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Grace, Power, Surf, and Sunset, Intermediate & Advanced is strictly for those who have been practicing yoga for awhile and are no longer challenged by beginner yoga DVDs. You should also have the stamina and time available to practice for 70 minutes. What makes this DVD so great? The top 3 reasons, in my opinion, are:
- Instructor: Maral Hadidi, a lifelong yoga student, delivers clear, detailed instruction. No unnecessary chatter or flowery yoga clichés, which are my personal pet peeves.
- Voiceover and music options: You can choose between 2 instructional styles: detailed or asana timing. The detailed instructional sound track presents you with pose options for each level, so if you’re not there yet, you can work up to the more advanced. Several beautiful music tracks are offered, adding an element of freshness each time you practice.
- Setting: This DVD was shot at Wind and Sea Beach in La Jolla, CA at sunset. The instructors are on platforms placed atop rocks which hover just over the ocean. Foamy waves roll and crash while the brilliant, setting sun appears often within the frame.
